Saturday saw us travel to Clifton to play Clifton Aces on the 3G pitch, It was yet again very windy but with the number of games called off over the past few months we wasn’t going to let a little thing like wind stop us.
From the very start we looked slow and half asleep and not like a team who were defending a ten game winning run.
It took just five minutes for Clifton to get the first, a rear mistake from captain Billy Stevenson saw the striker pinch the ball off him and finish well.
One thing GSB does not do is let there heads drop and although finding the pass very hard today Tom took the ball in the midfield and played a great ball to Luca for him to pull it back to 1-1.
Clifton’s second goal was a gift, yet again we had no midfielders so when Liam and Billy both stepped up a very simple ball forward gave a two on one chance against our keeper Ashton and there was nothing he could do 2-1 Clifton. only second after Liam smashed a ball for 20 yards only to see is great shot hit the cross bar………He will score some day.
Just before half time Billy was fouled just in the Clifton half and when Ben fired a ball to the back post Corey was on hand to finish to make it 2-2 at half time.
The second half saw Billy move into midfield and Luca back to defence, a move we have done before and worked well. Today was not going to be our day because it only took ten minutes for Clifton to take the lead again, from yet another nothing ball Clifton’s number 9 hit the ball with is eyes shut lol and it found the top corner 3-2 Clifton.
It was all one way traffic with GSB looking very out of sorts and miles off the high pass we have set in the past.
Luca made more tackles and stepped in to save the day more times then I could count.
We offered nothing up front today and it was from a corner with only minutes to play were Clifton got the 4th, Ashton dropping the ball from a shot only to the feet of the number 9 again.
The game finished 4-2 to Clifton and this was without a doubt the worst team performance We had seen for a long time.
Luca took the man of the match and well deserved it.
The only positive took from todays game was how the lads felt at the end of the game, you could tell they knew how bad they had played and now don’t like to lose.
The last thing I said to them was , remember how you feel now for next weeks first march league game and so me and Steveo how we know you can play.
