Friday 12th September saw 7 of the GSB U12 boys travel to West Notts College in Mansfield to play their first ever fixture in the U12’s Junior Elite National qualifying fixtures. The U12 age group has seen 17 teams taking part with 3 leagues of 6, with Notts County making up the final place but they can not qualify and all matches against them will be friendlies.
GSB have been placed in a league with Sherwood Colliery, Clipstone Madrid, Bilsthorpe, Dresden and Football First Academy. The first fixture saw them play Sherwood Colliery.
The Sherwood Colliery team were a Sunday U11 team and the one year age difference soon became clear as GSB were the much quicker and stronger team.
Each half was 25 minutes long and GSB were in total control of the match and ended up winning 10-1 thanks to 3 goals from Haydn ‘H’ McCaughey, including an excellent run from his own half and a great passed finish into the bottom corner, 3 goals from Carter ‘Pates’ Pateman, 2 goals from Malachi ‘Ky’ Gregg and one a piece for Drew ‘Chappers’ Chapman and Elliott ‘Els’ Hay.
The second half was finished 10 minutes early due to the Sherwood Colliery keeper banging his head on the floor and being unable to continue.
This really does seem to be a game these boys are taking to very well and are starting to understand that applying pressure on the ball high up the pitch really does make the difference in this game, which they can then hopefully take into their games on a Saturday too.
The next fixture takes place on Friday 10th October, kicking off at 7:00pm against Dresden.
