Saturday 20th September saw the U12 Boys travel to Chetwyn Barracks to take on the other team in Division 4 who had a 100% record from the first two games in Toton Tigers Orange. This is the 6th time these two teams have faced each other since they started in the YEL, with GSB having won 3 and lost 2 before today’s encounter. Toton Tigers Orange had won Division 5 at the end of last season easily and had won both of their opening games by 2 goals so it was looking like a close game.
Toton Tigers Orange kicked the game off playing down the hill but it was GSB who opened the scoring after 3 minutes when James Abbott went on a mazy run and Billy ‘Bills’ Housden scored early for the second game in a row.
A few minutes later and Drew ‘Chappers’ Chapman playing in a new central midfield role today played a through ball splitting the Toton defence for Ben ‘Mozza’ Morris to be clean through and he made no mistake giving GSB a 2 goal cushion.
Confidence was now running high within the team and the same duo combined again a few minutes later to give Mozza his second of the day and GSB a 3-0 lead. This was Mozza’s 50th goal for GSB in 88 games, a great return for a player that is very often played out wide on the right.
Half way through the first half and Ashton ‘Ash’ Graham played a ball through the Toton defence for Mozza to latch onto and finish with his left foot this time claiming a hat trick and giving GSB a 4-0 lead.
20 minutes into the first half and Haydn ‘H’ McCaughey beat a Toton defender on the edge of the box and slid a ball across the 6 yard box for Mozza to apply the finish claiming his 4th and GSB’s 5th.
A few minutes later and as they had threatened to do on a few occasions in the first half, the Toton striker got the ball in the GSB box and beat McKensie ‘Macca Pacca’ Withers to make it 5-1.
5 minutes before half time and Mozza this time turned provider with a delightful ‘futsal’ type flick from the by line for Chappers to apply the finishing touch at the far post to give GSB a 6-1 lead.
Just before half time Mozza got the ball into the back of the net again to claim his 5th and GSB 7th.

The second half started with GSB conceding a goal and giving Toton another deserved goal making it 7-2 to GSB.
Not long after this after some great play on the right wing by Carter ‘Pates’ Pateman, Mozza applied the finish again to give GSB a lead of 6 and a score of 8-2.
Toton Tigers now pushed another player forward and GSB central midfield two were starting to sit very deep which allowed Toton to play another ball over the top which was finished very well by their striker and making the scoreline 8-3.
Once again Toton played the ball over the top and GSB defence and midfield were caught on the half way line and despite Macca Pacca coming right out of his goal the Toton striker found the back of the net to make the score 8-4.
With just under 10 minutes to goal, GSB conceded a penalty when Kieran ‘KP Nuts’ Parrott was adjudged to have pulled the shirt of the Toton striker in the box and the penalty was scored just under the dive of Macca Pacca to make it 8-5.
Within 30 seconds Mozza had bagged his 7th goal of the game when he received the ball half way in the Toton half and full of confidence let fly with a superb strike which sailed over the keeper into the back of the net to make the score 9-5.
With 4 minutes left GSB won a free kick half way inside the Toton half. Abs stepped up and hit a great shot which hit the inside of the post and came out to Pates to apply a simple finish to make the score an amazing 10-5 to GSB. This was Pates 50th goal for GSB after 85 games, which is a great record for someone that often played in goal at a very young age.

Man of the Match: Ben ‘Mozza’ Morris. With a new player added to the GSB ranks today, and another player absence enjoying hospitality at Meadow Lane, it allowed Mozza to play in his favourite centre forward role for the full 60 minutes. This is the first time he has played a full game for a very long time and he showed how well he can play as a striker. His record of scoring 70% of his chances is a great record at any level of the game. Well Done Ben.
Next week sees 2nd placed Calverton MW Blue visited Sherwood Academy in what promises to be a much tougher encounter for the boys.
