Saturday 27th September saw GSB U12 Boys play host to Calverton Miners Welfare Blue at Sherwood Academy.
GSB started very brightly as they have done in all four games so far this season and got themselves in front when Asher Huffen hit the ball into the far corner when he got on the end of a cross from the left by James Abbott after just 39 seconds.
GSB managed to double the lead within the opening 10 minutes when Carter Pateman playing up front got the ball in the penalty area turned very nicely and finished well.
GSB continued to press forward and created numerous chances in the remainder of the first half but failed to get anymore goals.

The second half saw the boys become very complacent and once again a long ball over the top of the defence saw McKensie Withers rush out of goal to be beaten to the ball by the striker who slotted the ball home.
Midway through the half and Calverton got themselves level through a carbon copy of their first goal.
With 3 minutes left on the clock, GSB won a free kick on the half way line and played it quickly through to Ben Morris up front. With lots of shouting from the sidelines, the Calverton players stopped but the referee had not blown his whistle to stop play and Mozza fired the ball past the goalkeeper to give GSB all 3 points.

Man of the Match: James Plant. Planty is growing in confidence with each game this season and is making some very good runs forwards on the right hand side of midfield.
So whilst the game was eventually won, the boys did not play as well as recent games and sometimes need to realise that despite getting in front in games, you need to work for the full game to press home your advantage otherwise you can get caught out at the back. However some people do say it is the sign of a good team and probably one full of confidence that can play badly but still win.
Next week sees the boys travel to Stapleford to try and make it 5 wins out of 5 games.
