On a very frosty morning we set off to play Hucknall Sports White, after being well beat the past two weeks it was important to dig in and try and re-store some of the lads confidence.
Before the game we spoke about closing the Hucknall players down and remember its a team game. The lads had a good amount of the ball in the first half with Ben putting the ball wide of the goal and Luca putting it over the bar.
Hucknall looked dangerous on the break but the Rock Liam was back to his best at the back for us and cleaned up any counter attacking move. Just before half time Hucknall got a free kick and when we failed to get hold of the ball they found the back of the net to send us in at half time 1-0 down.
I told the boys at half time that the work rate was good but they had to keep on putting pressure on Hucknall. It took just five minutes for us to pull it back to 1-1, Ben forced his way into the box and he fired across the box only for a Hucknall player to put it into his own goal but we deserved to be on level terms.
This seemed to knock the confidence of Hucknall abit because for the next five minutes it looked like we would take the lead. The Hucknall keeper made three good saves than in true football fashion Hucknall went up the other end and scored.
Two minutes later a very rare mistake from Corey gifted them with a 3rd goal with only ten minutes left to play. A great save from Ashton stopped Hucknall getting their 4th.
Its time like this you start to learn what sort of team you have. Not one single had dropped and they stepped up two gears. The pressure payed off as we won a corner and from yet another great delivery from Ben Ronnie put a strong head on the ball to score making it 3-2 with three minutes left.
With more pressure came another corner and another great delivery but this time Ronnie didn’t know he scored again till he had put his glasses back on lol. 3-3
We had one last chance but failed to take it.
The game finished 3-3. It was a great come back and it proves that a good team spirit and strong pressure can change games.
Liam got man of the match for a near perfect performance, standing strong and keeping it simple.
This was a very hard working performance from the lads today and I’m so happy the boys got something out of the game.
