I presented a review of the year at our recent Committee Meeting so below is the transcript of what I said:
“We ended year with a stonking dinner at Notts County, well attended, a great atmosphere and a fitting way to bring the club celebration year to an end. It was rounded off at the dinner with the presentation to the club by Notts FA of the Community Club Charter Standard Award which we have strived to achieve since the formation of Gedling Southbank in 2005/06 season.
We managed along the way to donate £1150 to five local supported charities including Framework, the Broad Appeal, Nottingham Special Kids, Maggies and MacMillan Cancer Care – very important in our role as a community spirited club. We didn’t make any money as a club but as we have found out over the years where we don’t have an identifiable facility/location to meet up, it’s difficult to get people along to the events and make the big bucks – it’s finding the event that appeals and then really promoting it.
The events/activities were a mixed bag designed to appeal to all sections of the club and included a Big Band night, a Grand Raffle, a Sponsored Walk around Colwick Park, a stall at the Gedling Show, a Quiz night at the Longbow and finally the very successful dinner at Notts County. A couple of events fell by the wayside especially those themed around football mainly because of lack of interest out of our control. We produced a lovely celebration booklet tracing the history and personalities in the club and an anniversary team calendar highlighting teams from 1972 through to 2012.
Just like to say thank you to everybody who contributed to the year in whatever way they did, either by organising, promoting & selling, giving their time, putting their hand in their pocket or attending events. These things are not easy in a diverse club like ours which strives to be as integrated as possible and of course when the economy is tight. But it was a great experience to be part of it and once more we should be very proud as a club of what we have achieved.”
