Team spirit, Pride, passion, Skill, enjoyment are things GSB Utd under 10s have plenty of, how ever luck also plays a big part in football and that we have had very little of in the past few weeks and three defeats after playing well could knock confidence so before this weekends game against Keyworth I spent a few minutes telling the boys that they shouldn’t let the past few results get them down because the performance from the boys was still good.
The boys started very slow again, something that they need to improve on and after only two minutes a strike from 20 yard plus looped up in the air and found the back of the net. The boys responded well and woke up a little but was still finding hard to string passes together but when they did Luca and Josh on the wings looked good.
The game was very even, both teams defending well but when Ben found himself in the box with time to shoot all he could do was put it wide.
Half time 1-0 to Keyworth.
The second half started and Sam over on the right wing was looking dangerous. We had control of the game again with Keyworth unable to get pass Corey and Liam. Ben again got in to the box but put the ball straight at the keeper, Tom fired a ball over the cross bar from a volley and Josh put one wide……….was it going to be one of them days?
After the ball was half cleared by keyworth Corey found himself high up the pitch, he made a strong tackle and played the ball to Tom inside the box free and unmarked, with is back to goal he took the ball well, controlled it, turned, took a small touch forward and smashed it into the net with two minutes left but its was only what our second half performance deserved.
It finished 1-1 but you could see with the boys reactions what it meant to them not to get beat again.
Corey put in yet another great shift and was named man of the match.
Todays result gives us a good foundation to build on for the start of the march league games. Well done boys, keep playing and working hard for each other
