This weekends game saw us travel to Calverton MW to face a in form team who wouldn’t make it easy for us.
It was important for us to build on last weeks performance but yet again we started slow and our Keeper Ashton had to make a save after just thirty seconds. Calverton looked very fast and looked up for the game and there pressure payed off after only five minutes. We failed to clear the ball and when the Calverton player powered his way into the box he beat three GSB in the air and put the ball in from close range.

This seemed to wake us up. We started to put in tackles and get the balls out to the wings. We stopped Calverton taking control in the middle of the park and started to put a few shots in, one resulted in us wining a corner. Tom played a good ball in and the Calverton defend at the near post put the ball in the net (Tom is claiming it lol)
We went in at half time with a 1-1 score line but I was happy how we had stepped up a few gears.
The second half saw us come out the stronger and when Josh found him self at the back from a corner kick he smashed it over the bar, a good chance to take the lead went. We didn’t have to wait to long before we took the lead. From another corner Calverton half cleared the ball and when Luca controlled the ball well he fired the ball goal wards, it took a small deflection and went in to make it 2-1 to GSB.
We continued to work hard across the pitch with the subs coming on and fitting in right away. Calverton made a few promising plays but Corey and Liam at the back put a stop to the attacking play.
With five minutes to play a long ball from the back went over the last Calverton defender and Sam and Ben was clear on goal. Sam took the ball all the way but from eight yards out put it wide. I hoped we would regret missing such a great chance.
In the last minute Calverton beat Corey and Liam but Ben of all people was at the back to slide in and make the tackle. In four years I cant remember him doing a slide tackle but he picked a great time to start. Well done Ben.
The game finished 2-1 to GSB.
I was very happy with the team today. After going behind early on they stuck together and turned it again. One of the best team efforts I’ve seen in a long time.
Corey and Tom got voted man of the match but today the whole team impressed me. A great start to the march league.
