From Theo Addae, Team Manager:
We are a Vets (over 35s) team which means we are allowed 4 players between 35-39 and the rest of the team has to be over 40. We have been established since 2017 starting in the Conference, in the 2018/19 season we won the Conference and gained promotion to the Championship in only our second season.
The Freeman element in our name comes from the fact that most of the lads played for Freeman and Mitchell FC in the EMPAL league on Sunday mornings before we started to get old and grey! We play fortnightly on Sunday afternoons with our home ground being at Carlton Le Willows School and post-match hospitality being provided by our sponsor The Gedling Inn and Kitchen.
We have a great bunch and mix of players – lawyers, teachers, photographers, accountants, mechanics, etc – we have been together a long time and socialize with each other in and out of football. We often go on an end-of-season tour – last year we went to Tallinn in Estonia and played another Vets team there at Mart Poom’s stadium.
This year the league has created an additional Over 45s league (SuperVets) to run alongside the traditional Vets league. This involves having 6 players aged 40-44 but everyone else has to be over 45 – this Super Vets league allows older players to continue playing so we also have a team in that which is great fun too.
