“I want to help, but don’t know where to start.”
That’s great! Like you, most coaches in grassroots football are parents and don’t know where to start. As a club, Gedling Southbank FC will guide you through the process to become a qualified and confident coach.
Where do I start? The first thing you need is a DBS check, this has to be submitted through the FA. Any persons working with Under 18’s need a DBS check.
I already have a DBS check with work is that ok? Unfortunately, we have to have a separate DBS check performed through the FA.
I am only an assistant coach or helper, do I need a DBS ? Yes, as an FA Affiliated Charter Standard Community Club, we need to ensure that anyone working alongside children has a current DBS. Our club’s Welfare Officers will help you to obtain your DBS check. The club will cover the cost of the check, our Welfare Officers are :
– Julie Hall – julie.hall@hotmail.com
– Lindsey Goodman – Lindsey.goodman@icloud.com
Who can coach? Anybody can coach, coaching isn’t prejudiced to gender, age, or race, the opportunity is there for everyone.
The FA, Gedling Southbank FC and the grassroots community are there to help, there is an abundance of material to help with your journey, support is only a phone call away, and as a club, Gedling Southbank FC will mentor you every step of the way.
Gedling Southbank FC has girls teams, mixed teams and boys teams of all ages that need coaches and support, so come and put a smile on your face and all the children’s faces, know that you’re making a difference in building up not only football skills but life skills that will teach the children team work, social skills, grit, resilience and determination.
