GEDLING SOUTHBANK U11 v BINGHAM TOWN U11 BLUE
Today saw Gedling Southbank U11 boys take on Bingham Town U11 Blue team. The boys met twice last season with Bingham winning the league game and the cup game ending 0-0 with GSB victorious on penalties. So we knew this would be a close game especially as both teams started the day level at the top of the table on 10 points.
GSB were very quickly out of the blocks in this game and scored after just 50 seconds. Drew ‘Chappers’ Chapman jinked down the left wing and crossed the ball over which was met at the far post by James ‘Abs’ Abbott. He took the ball down, turned his man and slotted the ball into the far corner of the net with his left foot.
A minute later and Abs got his second of the game. Haydn ‘H’ McCaughey won the ball in midfield and played a simple ball to Abs. He went on a run, beat three players and fired the ball over the keeper and into the net off the underside of the crossbar.
Just 3 minutes later and GSB had gone 3-0 up. A free kick was but into the box by Chappers and after a scramble Billy ‘Howser’ Housden fired in after a bit of a scramble.

GSB continued to play good football in the second half and got another after 10 minutes. After a good run by Abs, he crossed the ball into the box where Howser fired a shot at goal from 3 yards which hit the crossbar. Unfortunately for Bingham the ball hit one of their defenders and went into the back of the net.
So with 20 minutes to go GSB were leading 4-0 and looking comfortable. Bingham however are a good team and have some good players and they managed to fire in 2 very quick goals to leave a tense last 10 minutes.
However GSB continued to press forwards and after some good work on the right by Jacob ‘JB’ Burley, Ben ‘Mozza’ Morris got a true centre forwards goal, leaving GSB able to relax for the last few minutes.

As other results went GSB’s way today, the team now sit top of the league with 2 games to go.
Man of the Match: Malachi ‘Ky’ Gregg. Malachi was outstanding in defence and time after time got some solid tackles in and set up numerous attacks today. Well done Ky, a much improving football player.
