Saturday 15th November saw the U12 Boys travel to Calverton to face Calverton Red. The two teams have played each other 4 teams over the last two seasons with GSB having won 3 of these and lost 1.
The game started with GSB kicking off and playing some neat football in a very even first half. Chances were few and far between with both sides just not finding the end product to some good passing moves.
The first fifteen minutes saw GSB have a couple of tame shots at the CMW goal and the game littered with free kicks for players raising their arms.
On fifteen minutes the 5 subs all came on and the came continued to create very few chances for either side with CMW getting a few corners just before the half time whistle.
Half Time: CMW Red 0 GSB 0
The second half saw CMW start the much better side with GSB being a little off the pace and giving the ball away too much. Within the first two minutes, CMW just failed to put away a cross from the right hand side as the final effort went just wide of the GSB goal. Again a minute later a dangerous cross from CMW right saw GSB manage to scramble the ball away for another CMW corner. Another period of pressure saw CMW fire a shot just wide of the GSB right hand post.
From the resulting goal kick the ball fell to Billy Housden who played a through ball for Carter Pateman to chase down and put the ball past the CMW goalkeeper and into the back of the net to give GSB the lead, probably a little against the run of play.
CMW continued to get the better of the second half and once again the 5 subs came on after fifteen minutes. Four minutes later Elliott Hay played a through ball to Ben Morris, who sped past the defenders and chipped the ball over the keeper to make it 2-0 to GSB.
With five minutes to go GSB had the chance to go 3-0 up after Jacob Burley found Ben Morris free in the middle of the pitch but the keeper made a good save with his feet in the 1 on 1 challenge.
A minute Malachi Gregg won the ball in defence and played the ball up to Ben Morris who was unmarked on the half way line. He turned with the ball and sprinted past the two defenders and put the ball past the keeper to make it 3-0 to GSB.
With just under a minute to go Haydn McCaughey won the ball in the right back position and played a ball over the top of the defence into the path of Ben Morris. The keeper just got to the ball first but Ben challenged him and the ball went past the keeper and with a shot on the turn Ben hit the post but reacted first to the rebound to make it 4-0 to GSB.
Final Score: CMW Red 0 GSB 4
The scoreline flattered GSB today but they showed great spirit to get the result and make it 6 wins out of 7 so far this season.
Next week sees Ruddington come to Sherwood Academy in what could turn out to be the decider for the league title. It will be Ruddingtons final league game with them curently sitting 1 point ahead of GSB who still have another game to play against Wollaton in December.
