Gedling Southbank Utd very first mid-week cup game saw us at home again for the second time in five days playing Ravenshead Red. We saw a good turnout of fans tonight as a few of the wanderers turned up to watch. Thanks for your support.
The game kicked off and you could see that both teams were evenly matched with not many chances falling to either team. Corey and Liam were looking in control at the back, with Ronnie, Tom and Luca just about winning the battle in mid-field, Ethan kept the Ravenshead back two on their toes. It was Ethan’s battling for the ball that gave Luca the chance to open the scoring and he took his chance well, putting the ball past the keeper from just inside the box
After that GSB stepped up a gear and forced two good saves from the Ravenshead keeper, with Ben coming close when he hit the post. Just before half time Ravenshead for the first time beat Liam and Max and the run into the box gave them the chance to equal the game and they took it. 1-1 Half time
The second half watched us pressing hard but Ravenshead had a couple of breakaway attacks but Corey and Liam put a end to them. Ashton was called up to make a good save with ten minutes left to play.
Josh was working hard down the left wing he put in a good ball to Max who in turn put a ball in front of Tom who just got to it before the defender and put Ben through, and from a very tight angle (nearly as tight as my wallet) he found the bottom left hand corner and we had the lead with only four minutes left to play.
The last action of the game came via a free kick for Ravenshead. A well taken kick could not pass Corey’s head and he put it out. Ravenshead put one last chance over the bar and from the resulting goal kick saw the end of the game. A very close game with GSB claiming a 2-1 win
Corey was given man of the match in a defending role, which he has looked comfortable in the past two games.
