Saturday 25th of April. We welcomed Clifton Aces to Around Mill. With them being two leagues higher than us and the team who ended our 11 game winning run last season I knew we had to be ready for them today.
The game started and both teams matched each other well with chances only coming from outside the box. With five minutes to half time Clifton won a corner and we failed to clear the ball and a shot made it through the packed box and found the net. Half time 0-1
The boys never dropped their heads and with in a minute of the re-start Ben made a great fun down the right wing, crossed the ball over for Ethan to show a cool head and side foot in from five yards out. 1-1
After that we controlled the game with most of the play happening in the Clifton half. I was always worried with the boys pushing for the winner we might get caught out at the back but once again Liam, Corey and Max stood strong at the back. With three minutes left and now happy with the draw Tom picked the ball up on the half way line and hit the ball long and high, was it a cross, him clearing the ball, or did he spot the keeper off his line. The ball came down around the penalty spot, bounced up and over the keeper, he was able to get a finger tip to it but it ended up in the back of the net.
The game finished 2-1 to us. This was a big test for the boys and them all passed with flying colours. Well done boys, keep up the hard work.
