Gelding Southbank United played away today against Clifton AW in the challenge cup. The wind could have played a massive part but it was blowing across the pitch so it wasn’t so bad.
We had our keeper missing today so Alfie stepped in. The game started with GSB showing they were up for today’s game, and on the 10 minute mark Josh found himself on the corner of the box and fired one in with his left foot to the far right hand corner of the goal.
Tom, Ronnie and Sam came on and the fresh legs helped us take control of the rest of the first half. Sam came close twice but put both shots wide.
Half time 1-0
The second half saw Clifton come out strong but Liam, Corey and Max at the back was up for the challenge.
Ben, Luca and Ronnie all had chances to get the second but the Clifton keeper pulled off some great saves.
Alfie made 3 good saves in the game but could do nothing when the ball was looped over him five minutes before full time making it 1-1.
We had one last chance from a corner but yet again the Clifton keeper made another good save.
Full time 1-1 extra time to be played.
From being very unlucky not to win the game in normal time we went 2-1 behind from a corner kick that the wind helped go in straight from the corner taker.
We continued to push and when Tom played a ball wide to Sam he put in a perfect cross and Ronnie was at the back post to tap in to make it 2-2.
It finished 2-2…………..PENALTIES
Clifton went first and scored, Sam took our first and hit the post.

Clifton put ball wide I looked away as it was Tom’s turn, he scored 2-3 us
Clifton scored, Corey stepped up and scored, we won 4-3.
A great team performance and into the next round to play West Bridgford Firebolts
Josh was given Man of the Match, one great goal and some good runs down the left wing.
