GEDLING SOUTHBANK U11 v SAWLEY GATORS U11
Today saw GSB U11’s played host to Sawley Gators U11 in their first game in Division 3. These two teams last met on 16th April 2013, where Sawley Gators won 3-0 & claimed the Division 4 championship. The boys knew this would be a tough test as Sawley had finished 4th in Division 3 in the Winter season winning 6 out of 9 games.
The game was played on a pitch where one half was very water logged but the game went ahead.
Sawley Gators started very well and passed the ball well in difficult conditions and took the lead in the 5th minute. GSB failed to move the ball away from their own penalty and Sawley nicked the ball and finished well into the far corner.
Both teams were trying to play football which was at times difficult but all boys must take credit for trying in the difficult conditions.

The second half saw Sawley defend the waterlogged area of the pitch which made it difficult for GSB in attack.
After 20 minutes of the second half, the ball was played to Ben ‘Mozza’ Morris who took the ball forward into the Sawley half. He took it past the defender and fired a cross into the area where Jacob ‘JB’ Burley got on the end of it and steered it into the bottom corner to give GSB deserved equaliser.
The game was heading to a draw when Elliott ‘Els’ Hay nicked the ball in midfield. He played the ball forward to Mozza who went on a 1v1 race towards the Sawley Gators. There are not many defenders who can catch Mozza and the Sawley defender was no different. The ball stuck in the mud just as Mozza was about to strike it towards goal but he managed to get another touch on it and strike the ball past the keeper.
The ref blew the whistle for Sawley to kick the game off again and within 5 seconds blew the final whistle. A last grasp winner if there ever was one.
Final Score: GSB 2 Sawley Gators 1
Man of the Match: Ben ‘Mozza’ Morris. Used his pace to great effect today which meant 2 goals for GSB. Playing like that will cause many defenders a problem.
Next week sees the boys travel to Southwell to play Southwell City Sabres. That will be a tough test for the boys but one I am sure they will try their hardest in.
