On Thursday the 3rd of April we played our last league game of the 2013-2014 season against Bulwell Athletic knowing that we had already won the league for the second time this season.
We played on a pitch that was far to long and way narrow and had more holes in it than a golf course but if that’s the sort of pitch Bulwell Athletic like to play on it up to them however it was no good our passing style of football we play.
It took only a minute for us to take the lead, a goal from nothing but it gave us the start we wanted. After that the game settled down with both teams making part chances. The first time Bulwell Athletic had us on the run was in the fourteenth minute mark when the front man for Bulwell took a shot and when Billy dived in to make the block the ball went under Billy and caught his trailing hand and the young ref pointed to the spot, it was very harsh on us as Billy had no chance of getting his arm out of the way. They scored from the penalty but Ashton was very unlucky getting a hand to the ball but the power of the shot was to much for him to keep it out. In my opinion the ref was wrong to give the penalty at this level of football but things got worse as the game went on making more and more poor decisions. The half finished at 1-1
The half time team talk was focused on how we play in the second half and not the ref. We came out strong and within five minutes Max had scored to make it 2-1 GSB. It was only a few minutes later when Ashton made a very rare mistake and let the ball beat him at his near post 2-2.
What happen next made the night the troublesome game it was !!
From another attacking play Ben took a shot and the Bulwell Athletic defender did just what Billy had done in the first half but no penalty was given and from this Bulwell went up the long pitch and scored making it 3-2 to Bulwell. After that it was all one way traffic and only second after we had yet another stone wall penalty turn down when the defender stopped the ball with both hands. Ronnie was given a yellow card for asking the ref why the penalty was not given.
With just five minutes left play we pulled it back to 3-3, this gave GSB another gear and a win looked on the cards. The last three minutes saw us score twice, Ronnie got a hat trick with Ben getting one as well. They never gave in attitude won the game for us, it was a great game of football made problematic by the ref who had a poor game.
This season the team have come so much. Id like to thank Stevo for helping make it a great season, the parents for showing there support but most of all the boys for working so hard for each other.
