The weekend saw us travel to play Clifton AW, a team we had beat on penalties a few weeks previously after a very close 1-1 draw.
Before the game kicked off a spent a few minutes with the lads, the past two weeks had not gone our way with defeats to West Bridgford and Bingham after being the better team in both games. We talked about keeping our heads up high and playing for each other. When football goes against you its hard to break the spell but I know the boys will grow stronger.
The game started and we looked a bit slow, this normal happens at the end of half term breaks, you could see a few of the lads had had a few late nights. Clifton was passing the ball round well but Liam and Corey stopped most attacks before they got to our keeper. Ben, Sam and Ethan all had half chances but nothing became of them. In a very even first half it finished 0-0
The second half played out much in the same way. Both teams failed to take the upper hand, when we did pass the ball out to the wing we looked like we might get something but with all the 50/50 going Clifton’s way it was looking like this game had a draw written all over it.
With a minute to play Clifton put a ball in to the box from the ring and Alfie made a good save but when the ball came out it ping around the box and Clifton found the back of the bet.
The game finished 1-0 to Clifton and my boys had yet again got nothing for the work they had put in
The lads looked a little disappointed but they are a strong bunch and will bounce back, that Im sure of.
I told the boys its not a bad thing to lose if we learn something with it.
