Gedling Southbank 1st team were back in league action on a nice Autumn Friday evening facing Bingham Town FC, around 40 spectators turned up at Calverton and were rewarded with a good game of football from both teams.

Bingham came closet to scoring early on with a speculative shot that scrapped the post but Banks pace up front soon opened up the Bingham defence and Tom Jeffries got in around the keeper, staying calm after slipping he recovered to smash in the opener.

A strong run from Raheem down the left was turned in by the Bingham defence for 2-0 but a late break through from Bingham reduced the deficit after Dan Allen mistimed his challenge and conceded a penalty which was duly despatched, half time 2-1.

Second half saw Bank open up a 3 goal cushion as first Tom Jeffries beat the offside trap to slot home and then substitute Nick Edgar tapped in after more good work down the right.

A late consolation goal for Bingham but Bank ran out winners 4-2, MOM for me Tom Jeffries would have had his hat trick after a mazy run past 4 players only for the keeper to save well down to his right and the only other note worth mentioning in a very good game was the look on Raheem’s face and probably the 40 spectators after he was booked for diving after being brought down by the keeper, possibly the referee was already thinking of his early morning swim Saturday when he gave that one.

A much needed win for Bank keeps them in touch with the mid table group and restores a bit of confidence.
