GEDLING SOUTHBANK U10 RED v HUCKNALL SPORTS U10 BLACK
Today saw GSB U10 Red team host Hucknall Sports U10 Black team at a very wet and cold Carlton-Le-Willows. After the sweeping brush had been used to clear the goal mouth and the ref had failed to turn up, the game started in very difficult conditions.
Today saw Billy Housden and Jake Burley pick the team and they decided to change to a 2-2-2 formation – I love seeing kids try something new and completely different.
From the side lines it did look like there were big gaps on the side of the pitch but the boys didn’t seem to have any problems with that as they took the lead after 6 minutes. Jake Burley did very well on the right wing and laid the ball off to Haydn McCaughey on the edge of the box. After his first effort was blocked he was first to the ball and fired a ball goalwards, which struck Carter Pateman and went into the back of the net.
Both teams made a good effort of it in the first half and at half time the score remained 1-0 to GSB. The boys came off and they looked very, very cold and wet.
At half time, a replacement ref arrived much to the relief of Paul McCaughey who could not go and get under his umbrella!! Thanks for stepping in Paul, much appreciated.
GSB managed to get themselves further ahead after half time with a goal by player manager Jake Burley. Player Manager Billy Housden got the ball on the edge of his own area and waltzed out of defence before playing the ball to Ben Morris. His shot was saved and Jake rolled the rebound slowly over the line to give GSB a 2-0 lead.
The management duo made the 4 changes half way through the half and Hucknall seized on the change in defence and pulled a goal back.
GSB had chance after chance but failed to capitialise on any of them and were made to paid. Hucknall fired in a high corner and a free header from 2 yards out gave them an equaliser.

Man of the Match: The management duo chose Carter Pateman for his first outing in goal during the second half for 18 months. He made a couple of wonderful saves. So goal scorer and goal stopper today saw him walk away with the award.
So on a very cold and wet morning, GSB probably should have made some of their chances count and put the game beyond Hucknall but fair play to them, they did not give up and pulled themselves level. A good close game, which is always good to see at this age.
