November League Winners

Written by Ian Jacks

The last game in November saw us on our travels to Bingham. We arrived at the ground knowing that the league was already won but keeping the winning run was more important.
Before the game the lads were far to sure that todays game was already going to be another win, so stevo and I had to tell them no game is won till the final whistle of any game.
Yet again we started slow and it seems the pre match chat went in one ear and out of the other because within the first two minutes we were 1-0 down and it only took another two minutes when we failed to clear a corner and was 2-0 down.
It was a big wake up call for the lads and they responded just the way Stevo and I wanted, full on attack The rest of the half saw gsb pass the ball round well and make chance after chance. Ben, Ronnie and Thomas all went close and it was Ben who drilled the ball in far to fast for the Bingham Keeper to keep a hold of and crept over the line, it was well deserved. 2-1 at half time.
At the half time team talk the message was clear, just keep playing like we had the last fifteen minutes of the first half.
We set up camp in the Bingham half for the first fifteen minutes of the second half but when Bingham did counter attack Billy, Liam and Luca was up to the task and sent it back the way it came from.
It looked like it was going to be one of them days were we wouldn’t get that second goal, but on the twenty minute mark a good passing move down the right hand side of the pitch saw Ben put the ball in the box and Thomas was in the right place to smash the ball into the back of the net 2-2 and now with five minutes left the boys stepped up two gears for the win.
We moved Luca out of defence and back into midfield and this proved a good move because when he was chopped down on the corner of the box it gave us a free kick with just two minutes left.
Up stepped Ben and from where I was stood the second it left Bens foot I knew the rocket of a free kick was only going one place…….Top right hand corner 3-2 gsb.
The game finished 3-2, Ben was voted man of the match for the second week running. For me the full team have stepped up to the plate in November making it five wins from five games and even today at 2-0 down not one head dropped for a second.
League winners and a very proud set of parents and managers.
Well done Boys.
