It was another away trip today that took us to West Park to play West Bridgford Arrows, one point would see us top the cup league table and book a place in the semi-finals.
In the pre-game warm up we worked on corner kicks, where to stand, how to attack and movement (with the aid of my new tactical board planner lol)
It took just three minutes for us to get our first corner and the boys set them self up without even thinking about it. Ben put a great cross and Tom headed the ball home. Too say I was happy is an understatement.
Only minutes later we had got the second with a well taken shot from outside the box by Luca making it four goals in four games for him. West Bridgford looked like they could cause us a problem with there number 9 working hard down the right hand side. He won a corner and fired it into the box and when a leg popped out the ball ended up in the net to make it 2-1GSB with ten minutes of the first half left.
One thing Ive been impressed with this season is how the lads have never looked down and get stuck in when they are up against it. That hard work won us a corner and pressure from Luca forced an own goal from the Arrows. Half time 3-1 GSB
The only thing I said at the half time team talk was to watch and stay close to the West Bridgford number 9, this job was given to Sam.
It took less than a minute for us to get the 4th. Playing in just is 3rd game for us Sam found himself in the box with time to pick his spot and get his first goal………well done Sam
West Bridgford did not give in and Liam and Corey had to step into action a few times. I was very happy with the midfield today with Ronnie, Tom, Luca, Max and Sam all battling hard to win the ball. It wasn’t all one way and Ashton had to make a couple of saves in the second half but when Max won the ball and passed it to Ben, Ben chipped the ball over the diving keeper to make it 5-1.
Ben had one more chance but a good save stopped him scoring his second. It finished 5-1 with us now in the semi-finals of the cup………the lads knew it could be an all GSB final but I told them we take one game at a time and its the semi-finals we need to win first
Tom was voted man of the match, an around good performance. Im one very proud manager at the minute. Well done Gedling Southbank Utd.
