Saturday’s short away trip to Breck Hill to play Carlton Town saw us with Corey, Ben and Ethan missing, all key players in their roles within the squad but with the likes of Ronnie playing up front and Max and Sam covering for Corey at the back I wasn’t worried one bit.
The game kicked off and from the start GSB looked in control with some good passing moves and runs down the right wing. The Carlton keeper was by far the busiest player for Carlton making four or five saves in the first twenty minutes.
From a corner kick the ball was cleared to the edge of the box and when the ball was smashed back in a Carlton player used both hands on the goal line to stop the ball, the ref gave nothing and the boys were still moaning at half time. I can only think the ref thought we were playing basketball. Half Time 0-0
I told the boys at half time they had to step up a gear and be a bit stronger on the tackles. Keep playing the passing football and the goals will come.
Carlton came out stronger and started putting shots in from long range but within ten minutes Ronnie fired a shot in and the goal keeper couldn’t keep hold of it and we took a well deserved lead.
Within five minutes another long range shot from Carlton was blocked by the head of Liam but the ball looped up and over Ashton finding the back of the net, 1-1.
With eight minutes left Tom found himself just inside the box with time to hit the ball to the bottom left hand corner to put us back in front. Ronnie had not stopped and came off to give Sam ago up front and from a great pass from Luca he got the chance of a shot but could only put it wide.
One thing I know about Breck Hill is in four prior games late goals have coat us and the curse hit us again because with only three minutes left a shot from nothing found the far left hand corner of our net, 2-2
Tom hit the cross bar deep into injury time from a free kick but that was the last of the action. 2-2 Full time
I was happy how the team worked hard without the key missing players today but like I told them at full time with the winter league starting next week we need to be more clinical in front of goal and finish teams off because today was a game I think we did enough to win but didn’t.
Lets start with a win next week boys
