RUDDINGTON COLTS U11 YELLOW v GEDLING SOUTHBANK U11
Saturday 22nd March saw GSB travel to Jubilee Fields to take on Ruddington Colts Yellow. Unfortunately three players were absent due to a mixture of illness, weddings and 30th Wedding Anniversary celebrations (Congratulations to Nigel and Maxine Plant).
So with only 1 sub, GSB got the game under way in what was a very cold and wet first half. The boys got themselves in front after only 2 minutes through the most unlikely of scorers. GSB had a corner which was half cleared to the edge of the box where Kieran ‘KP Nuts’ Parrott was positioned. Kieran has been with the club since the age of 6 and he is now 11. In all that time he has never scored a goal which includes missing a penalty! So as the ball fell to him I don’t think anyone thought we would take the lead but take the lead we did. KP took aim, swung his right boot and with a little assistance from the wind his shot went straight past the keeper and into the back of the net.
Ruddington got themselves back into the game 5 minutes later after their striker got behind the defenders and poked the ball past the oncoming McKensie ‘Macca Pacca’ Withers in goal.
The rest of the half was played out in awful conditions and the boys got very cold and wet so we made use of the dressing rooms at Jubilee Fields at half time just to try and get some warmth into the boys.
The second half saw GSB playing down the hill and most of the boys wearing tracksuit tops under their shirts as they really were very cold and wet.
Unfortunately for the boys Ruddington managed to score mid way through the half after a cross from out right saw the striker unmarked in the middle. They added to this right at the end of the game after a long goal kick cleared the midfield and bounced over the defence.

As ever when a game of football is lost, players look dejected and disappointed. Today was an occasion when not a lot went well for GSB apart for KP Nuts scoring for the 1st time in somewhere like 80 games but I am sure the boys will look back at this match and learn from it and realise that to play your best means giving your all.
Next week the boys travel to Southwell to take on Southwell City Blades, in what should be another tough game.
