The weekend saw GSB United under 10s play hoist to Bagthrope and Hucknall Sports White in a two short game day, a format that does not suit us and one I don’t like……..that’s the FA for you.
We played first against Bagthrope and for once we looked up for it from the start. The first chance fell to Ben who found him self just off the penalty spot with bags of time but last seasons top scorer could only put the ball wide. We had control of the game but when a long ball up from Bagthrope put us under a bit a pressure a sliding tackle from Max took the ball of the striker but unluckily put the ball into his own net to put us one behind.
The boys never let it get to them and within a few minutes Tom who was captain on his birthday finished well on a spinning half volly from five yards out to make it 1-1.
Bagthrope re-took the lead with a great goal but the ref missed a hand ball and the boys were not happy because it was a clear hand ball, but it takes nothing away from a great 20 yard finish. Half time 1-2
The boys at half time were still moaning about the hand ball so I told them if your thinking about what was your not thinking about what you should be doing on the pitch.
It took us just five minutes to make it 2-2 from a good finish from Ethan. The keeper saved the first attempt but Ethan took his time to slot the ball home. The rest of the game was played in the Bagthrope half but without making any great chances. It finished 2-2.
Bagthrope and Hucknall played out a 1-1 draw.
We had played Hucknall sport only a few weeks ago in full game and beat them 3-1 so we knew this was a game we could win with a bit of luck.
It was one of them games where both teams played in the middle of the pitch with very little happening at the business ends. The one thing that stick out for me was when Alfie rushed off his goal line to make a save from the very fast Hucknall front man. Well done Alfie. Liam, Corey and Max looked very strong at the back. I’m hoping Max will stand strong in defense next season when we go to nine aside.
I was happy with the hard work put in today from the boys. We need to start making the pressure we put on teams turn in to more goals and I’m sure it will.
Keep the team spirit strong and results will come. Well done boys
