GEDLING SOUTHBANK U10 RED v BINGHAM TOWN U10 BLUE
Today saw GSB U10 Red’s host Bingham Town U10 Blue team in the quarter finals of the YEL trophy. The recent game between these two sides had ended 3-3 so another close game was expected.
GSB started very well and were soon playing some lovely football and could have been in the lead as early as 21 seconds when Drew ‘Chappers’ Chapman got down the left and put in a great cross but no one could get on the end of it.
The first half saw chances come and go for both sides but in the end it finished goal less.
The second half was very much in the same vein with GSB hitting the post twice and Bingham defending very well. A special mention has to go to Bingham’s goal keeper who made some excellent saves today.
The final whistle came along and neither side had managed to score was extra time it was.
Extra time in these games is 5 minutes each way and those minutes soon came and went as again both teams had failed to score so it was the dreaded penalty shoot out for the 2nd time this season, and the 3rd time in 4 cup games for this team in 2 seasons.
Chappers took the first and put it safely in the bottom corner. GSB 1 – o Bingham
Bingham took and smashed the ball into the top corner. GSB 1 – 1 Bingham
Macca Pacca came up and smashed the ball straight down the middle where it hit the cross bar and bounced down but not over the line. GSB 1 – 1 Bingham
Bingham once again smashed the ball into the back of the net to gain the advantage. GSB 1 – 2 Bingham
James Abbott took the next and I think he might have been watching Chris Waddle from Italia ’90 as the ball ended up half way across the full size pitch behind the goal. GSB 1 – 2 Bingham
Now Bingham had a chance to gain the advantage and put the game out of GSB reach. Unfortunately for the Bingham player he put the ball just wide. GSB 1 – 2 Bingham
Pates strode forward and hit the ball into the ground right down the middle and the ball bounced over the line. GSB 2 – 2 Bingham
Once again Bingham had a chance to gain the advantage but Billy ‘The Salmon’ Housden was up to the challenge and saved another penalty. GSB 2 – Bingham 2
Ben ‘Mozza’ Morris strode forward to take penalty 5 for GSB and despite looking full of nerves scored an excellent penalty into the bottom corner to give GSB the lead. GSB 3 – 2 Bingham
So Bingham had to score to stay in the game but unfortunately for the player he put the ball just over the bar and GSB had made it through to the Finals day at Calverton MW on May 18th.
A special mention to Bingham Town players who played very well and it is never nice to lose on penalties. We know as we have experienced it before and it always ends in tears for the players.
Man of the Match: As one of the players said today, we’d have to split it 10 ways today. So well done to Ashton Graham, Kieran Parrott, Malachi Gregg, Billy Housden, McKensie Withers, Haydn McCaughey, Ben Morris, James Abbott, Drew Chapman and Carter Pateman.
And one final mention goes to Jake Burley, who unfortunately is cup tied as he played 10 minutes for Burton Joyce before Xmas but still came down to support the lads and was in with the team for the penalties.
So this team has one final 7-a-side match day left where the semi finals will take place at Calverton MW on May 18th kicking off at 11:10 followed by either the final or 3rd / 4th place play off at 12:30.
