BINGHAM TOWN U10 BLUE v GEDLING SOUTHBANK U10 RED

Today saw GSB U10 Red team travel to Bingham Town to face their U10 Blue team. The last time these two teams met was March 2012 when Bingham ran out 4-1 winners.

The team selectors today were Carter ‘Pates’ Pateman and Ben ‘Mozza’ Morris. They started with the usual 2-3-1 formation.

GSB did not make the best start to a game ever and were struggling to deal with the long throws and corners being out in by Bingham. Indeed, Bingham took the lead on 4 minutes when a corner was fired into the near post and a GSB player but the ball into his own net.

Within less than a minute, GSB were once again undone at a corner. The ball was delivered deep into the box and with GSB players standing and watching a Bingham player made an excting run and steered the ball into the bottom corner.

GSB pulled one back a minute later through player manager, Pates, who poached another goal to take his season’s tally to 16.

A defensive mistake by GSB after 17 minutes saw Bingham regain their 2 goal advantage.

Just before half time GSB pulled a goal back, with Pates once again getting his name on the scoresheet. He gathered the ball on the edge of the area, side stepped the defender and finished into the far corner. A great finish.

Half Time: Bingham Town 3 GSB 2

Both teams continued to play a fast flowing game of football with chances coming and going for both teams. GSB thought they had equlised when Pates looking for his hat trick struck the post with a left footed volley.

With just under 7 minites left, GSB did manage to pull themselves level. The ball was played out wide to Jake Burley on the left. He cut back onto his right foot and crossed the ball. Unfortunately for the Bingham keeper, his attempt to gather the ball ended up with the ball in the back of his own net.

GSB had a couple of chances to get a winner but had to settle for a draw.

Full Time: Bingham Town 3 GSB 3

Man of the Match: Haydn McCaughey. Once H got out of bed and started to control the game GSB pulled themselves back into the game.

These two teams face each other again on April 27th in the Quarter Final of the YEL Sat U10 Trophy at Carlton-Le-Willows, which should be a very close game.

Next up for the boys is their first mid week fixture away to league leaders Sawley Gators on Tuesday night.
