GEDLING SOUTHBANK U10 RED v ARNOLD TOWN U10 YELLOW
Today saw GSB U10 Red team play host to Arnold Town U10 Yellow team in the semi final of the YEL trophy. GSB had managed to get through to this stage by beating Bingham Town on penalties whilst Arnold had smashed the league winners, Sawley Gators, 6-0. This was Arnold’s second visit to CLW this season after they won 3-1 back in February.
The game was played in very windy conditions but both sides were very evenly matched. There were chances for both sides in the first half and GSB managed to convert one when McKensie (Macca Pacca) Withers converted a cross from Carter (Pates) Pateman to give GSB the lead.
Arnold managed to pull level after a long range effort bounced through and past Billy (The Salmon) Housden into the back of the net.

The second half once again saw end to end football with both sides failing to add to the half time score so the match went to extra time.
As each half is only 5 minutes long, there weren’t too many chances for either side and the match finished 1-1, which meant for the 3rd time this season, GSB U10 Red team were heading into a penalty shoot out.

Carter (Pates) Pateman stepped up and hit the back of the net – GSB 2 Arnold Town 2
Arnold Town finished well once again to gain the advantage – GSB 2 Arnold Town 3
Haydn (Corky) McCaughey slammed the ball into the back of the net – GSB 3 Arnold Town 3
Billy (The Salmon) Housden guessed correctly and batted the Arnold penalty away, advantage GSB – GSB 3 Arnold Town 3
Ben (Mozza) Morris stepped forward & struck a very good penalty, low and hard towards the bottom corner but unfortunately it hit the inside of the post and rebounded out – GSB 3 Arnold Town 3

Billy (The Salmon) Housden stepped forward to try and keep GSB in the game. Unfortunately the keeper made a good save low to his right and that meant Arnold Town progressed through to the final.
A very cruel way for the boys to end their 7-a-side careers and one they certainly did not deserve today. Well done to all the boys today for putting on a very good display of football.
Man of the Match: Haydn McCaughey. A tremendous display in centre midfield. He battled with all his might, played some excellent football and did not deserve to be on the losing side.
