GEDLING SOUTHBANK U10 RED v CALVERTON MW U10 RED

GSB U10 Red team played host to Calverton MW U10 Red team in the YEL U10 Trophy on Saturday morning.

The game was played on a new mini soccer pitch at CLW, which had brand new goals too after an early Saturday morning delivery. The last game between these two sides had seen GSB come out of the blocks very quickly and score 5 goals with the first 12 minutes, and today proved to be no different too.

The team have been challenged, as part of their development, to work in pairs to pick the team for our remaining 7-a-side matches as well as taking the warm up and the first pair to have a go were Haydn ‘Cloughie’ McCaughey and Drew ‘Taylor’ Chapman. They proved that they can certainly make some excellent decisions and really seemed to enjoy the additional responsibility.

GSB took an early lead within the 3rd minute when the ball was switched across the pitch in midfield and James ‘Abs’ Abbott fired in a shot from just inside the area. A very similar passage of play in the 6th minute saw Abs score his second and give GSB a great start.

A minute later and GSB went 3 up when one of the player managers, Drew, calmly slotted the ball into the far corner after a one two with Carter ‘Pates’ Pateman. GSB were playing some wonderful football and were proving just a bit too strong for CMW.

5 minutes later and GSB had given themselves a great platform to progress through to the next round when Drew played a through ball to Pates which unfortunately for CMW keeper, he didn’t quite gather and Pates put the ball into an empty net.

Half Time: GSB 4 CMW 0

After a re-think of their formation and team selection at half time, Drew and Haydn sent out the team for the second half and scored a 5th goal in the 12th minute with the player manager getting his 2nd of the game. Again another one two with Pates and Drew placed the ball into the far corner again.

A triple substitution by the management duo saw a change in formation and Kieran ‘KP Nuts’ Parrott was sent on up front instead of his usual defence role. He played a part in the 6th goal too with a delightful flick out wide to Ben ‘Mozza’ Morris who skipped past his man and delivered a great cross which saw McKensie ‘Macca Pacca’ Withers put the ball into the net at the far post.

KP Nuts was going in search of his first ever goal for GSB in 4 years and had an ideal opportunity when the ref awarded GSB a penalty. KP Nuts stepped up, hit the ball firmly but unfortunately didn’t manage to hit the target.

Full Time: GSB 6 CMW 0

Man of the Match: The management duo decided to give the award to KP Nuts due to some excellent defensive work in the 1st half and for playing well up front in an unfamiliar position.

So GSB are through to the Quarter Finals of the Trophy where they face Bingham Town Blue on March 23rd.
