U11 Boys out of the cup

Calverton Miners Welfare U11 Red v GSB U11

Saturday 7th December saw GSB U11 boys head over to Calverton Miners Welfare to take on their U11 Red team in the second round of the cup for the second year in a row. GSB won last years encounter 6-0 but this was aways going to be a very different game as CMW have played 9 games this season and have only conceded 1 goal.

The game was kicked off by CMW and straight away they put the makeshift GSB defence under pressure and just missed taking the lead. They did however take the lead after 5 mins and deservedly doubled this 5 minutes later. GSB were struggling especially without Ashton ‘Ash’ Graham in defence.

They did however pull a goal back just before half time after Ben ‘Mozza’ Morris battled his way down the left wing, cut into the penalty box & blasted the ball into the back of the net.

Half Time: CMW 2 GSB 1

The second half saw GSB get back on level terms after Elliott ‘Els’ Hay won the ball in midfield, played it out wide to James ‘Planty’ Plant and got into the box to get onto the end othe cross for his 1st GSB goal.

Unfortunately for GSB two learning opportunities followed for our defence & goalkeeper which saw CMW score a long range effort from our own goal kick and then convert a penalty.

Full Time: CMW 4 GSB 2

So our cup run is over in a rather disappointing way but as long as the boys use this as a learning opportunity then I am sure they will bounce back.
