GEDLING SOUTHBANK U11 v LONG EATON UNITED U11
Saturday 28th September saw GSB U11’s face Long Eaton Utd U11 at Carlton-Le-Willows. Both teams came into the game undefeated in the league so far.
Long Eaton Utd got into the game very quickly and have two excellent players who are both big and skillful. GSB found it very hard to get to grips with them in the first half. Long Eaton took the lead through Oliver Worthington, who would finish the game with 4 goals to his name giving him 10 goals in 3 games this season, after he powered his way past 4 GSB defenders to score a very good goal.
They doubled their lead after a tame effort squirmed through McKensie ‘Macca Pacca’ Withers in goal. Macca Pacca has decided he wants to be our full time keeper this season and I am confident he will use such occasions as the learning opportunities that they are.

GSB started the second half very well and within a minute had pulled a goal back through James ‘Abbs’ Abbott. A good run down the left by Drew ‘Chappers’ Chapman provided him with the opportunity to pull the ball back. Carter ‘Pates’ Pateman swivelled to hit a shot but missed it and Abbs was on hand to place the ball home.
GSB were starting to play better football now and had an excellent opportunity to get on level terms when the ball was played through to Chappers who was through one on one with the keeper. He shot was well saved by the keeper and GSB were made to pay as Long Eaton went and made the game 3-1.
GSB heads were starting to drop and Long Eaton Utd scored two more goals to really finish the game off.
GSB did pull another one back after good work down the right by Abbs saw the ball pulled across the goal for Chappers to score a simple tap in.
Long Eaton once again showed their strength with a finish that was too high for Macca Pacca to get near.

The boys appeared to be very disappointed at the end of today’s game which was probably more to do with them knowing they didn’t perform as well as they could do. However they are only 10 years old and as long as they use these games as learning opportunities they will come back stronger in the long term.
Man of the Match: Kieran ‘KP Nuts’ Parrott. Kieran started the game on the bench and came on to good effect in the 1st half. He showed his true character with some great strong challenges and was a real example to his team mates. Some may say he put in a real captains performance.
This result gives Long Eaton the edge in Division 4 now as they have a game in hand on most teams but after today’s game they top the league on 7 points with the 5 teams behind them, including GSB, on 7 points too. This could be a really exciting league.
Next week see’s the boys go to West Bridgford Hurricane’s for a 2:30pm kick off. The first time they will have played afternoon football.
