ATTENBOROUGH COLTS U11 v GEDLING SOUTHBANK U11
Saturday 21st September saw GSB U11’s travel to Chilwell Olympia to take on Attenborough Colts.
The boys were in confident mood after last weeks victory of Calverton and carried on where they had left off last week.
With 4 minutes gone, Jacob ‘JB’ Burley got his name on the scoresheet for the first time this season. Haydn ‘H’ McCaughey had a long range shot which Carter ‘Pates’ Pateman tried to turn in but the ball fell to JB for a tap in.
Two minutes later, JB got his second. He got a header on a corner which was blocked but fell very nicely to him for a simple tap in.
GSB continued to press forward and got another 3 minutes later through Pates, with a header. Great play on the wing by James ‘Abbs’ Abbott saw the ball pop up to our smallest player to head the ball across the line.
After 9 minutes, GSB had extended the lead to 4-0 when H got his first of the season with a great long range effort, nothing less than he deserves.
A few changes after 15 minutes and the game was fairly evenly matched until 4 minutes before half time when Drew ‘Chappers’ Chapman got on the end of an excellent cross by James ‘Planty’ Plant to slot home GSB’s 5th.
Attenborough did pull one back fairly quickly through a penalty. The third penalty GSB have conceded in 3 games!
However GSB quickly got another after great work from Chappers saw Ben ‘Mozza’ Morris get a simple tap in.
On the stroke of half time, GSB made it 7 when Mozza got on the end of a JB cross after a great ball from Planty.

The second half saw many changes for GSB to give the players different experiences of different positions.
GSB continued to press forward and with Attenborough only having 9 players they tired but never gave up.
Pates scored with a great left foot shot to make it 8-1.
Chappers made another great run down the left wing and crossed for JB to complete his hat trick and GSB’s 9th.
Billy ‘Houser’ Howsden got on the scoresheet from right back. He had made some excellent tackles and runs today and was desperate to get his goal which he did with a very slightly deflected shot!
To finish the scoring off Chappers had a run down the left and fired a shot across the keeper.

I am now in my 4th season with this team and today was one of the best performances they have put in.
Man of the Match: Haydn ‘H’ McCaughey. He battled so hard today, carried on beating players with confidence and tried to achieve one of his targets which is to get the ball wide.
So 2 wins and a draw from the first 3 games with 21 goals scored is a fantastic performance from the boys and hopefully they take the performance into next weeks home game against Long Eaton.
