Saturday 25th April saw GSB U12 Boys play host to Toton Tigers Orange at Sherwood Academy for their final 9-a-side home game. The two sides met before Xmas where GSB ran out 10-5 winners!
Toton kicked the game off and soon found themselves behind to an excellent worked goal from GSB. Billy Housden played the ball to Drew Chapman, who was being deployed as a centre forward today with both Jacob Burley and Carter Pateman absence playing other sports. Drew held the ball up well and saw the great run from Elliott Hay and slipped the ball in behind the Toton defence for Elliott to take a touch and calmly finish the ball. 4 minutes gone and GSB were 1-0 up.
More of the same 2 minutes later when Drew got the ball in the box, turned well and played a great ball to Elliott who shot past the keeper to make it 2-0.
GSB continued to push forwards but were caught out by Toton when Ashton Graham was robbed in the left back position on the half way line and the Toton striker ran through and put the ball past McKensie Withers in goal.
With 5 minutes remaining of the first half remaining GSB once again lost the ball in defence and were made to pay by a good finish from Toton.

GSB kicked the second half off and were pushing forwards trying to find themselves a goal. They had two good headers from corners, delivered really well by Asher Huffen. Drew Chapman just put his chance wide and then Elliott Hay denied a hat trick by a goal line stop from the Toton keeper.
GSB were made to pay for not taking their chances when in the final minute Toton won a corner. The ball was floated over and the Toton player had a free header which Haydn McCaughey did brilliantly to head up against the bar but as the ball came down it hit a GSB defender and ended up just over the goal line. A very cruel way for the game to end for GSB.

So with a break next week for Bank Holiday, GSB travel to Butt Field on Saturday 9th May for their final 9-a-side game where Bingham Town will be looking to try and join leaders Edwalton Cavaliers at the top of the table.
