Saturday 11th October saw GSB U12 Boys take on Cotgrave at Sherwood Academy with a 12:30 kick off, where the boys were looking to make it 6 wins out of 6.
The game started very well for GSB and after 10 minutes they found themselves in front after a few blocked shots from a corner finally fell to Elliott Hay, who volleyed home.
The rest of the half was fairly even with GSB probably having the better of the chances but failing to put any away.
Half Time: GSB 1 Cotgrave 0
The second half started well for GSB and after an excellent run by Drew Chapman, a Cotgrave defender mistimed a challenge which resulted in a penalty. Carter Pateman stepped up and fired the penalty to the keepers left who had dived to his right to give GSB a 2-0 lead.
After this goal the Cotgrave manager said to his players ‘Remember Calverton when we were 2-0 down, we came back then and we can come back again’. Well I think that really inspired the Cotgrave boys who came back into the game.
After a GSB corner a quick break by Cotgrave saw the left winger hit a great shot hitting the far post before settling in the back of the net.
Cotgrave got themselves level after a clearance by McKensie Withers in goal fell to a Cotgrave midfielder who lobbed the ball into an empty net.
Cotgrave were now on top and got themselves in front after a break through the centre of the GSB defence and then furthered their lead with 5 minutes to go in a similar fashion.
With 3 minutes level, GSB pulled one back after Ben Morris was sent clean through, he used his strength to get the ball away from a Cotgrave defender but his shot hit the keeper only for James Plant to hit home the rebound.
Unfortunately it was too little too late for the boys and their winning run came to an end.
Final Score: GSB 3 Cotgrave 4
Man of the Match: Drew Chapman. Worked very hard in the centre of midfield in the second half and earned his side a penalty with an excellent run.
Next week sees the boys travel to Kimberley Leisure Centre to take on Priory Celtic White who are second in the league above the boys in the cup. It will be a tough game especially as the last time the two sides met GSB lost 6-1.
