U12 First Futsal Session

Written by Adam Chapman

Friday night saw 8 players from the U12 squad travel to West Notts College in Mansfield to take part in one of the Futsal taster sessions to see if the boys want to take part in the monthly Futsal league being run by Junior Elite Futsal over the coming season.

The boys arrived early to watch Notts County U10 take on Mansfield Colts U10. The game is 50 minutes long and 5-a-side. Having watched that game, it was very clear it was a very fast paced game – the players have 4 seconds to play the ball back into play from a corner, from the goalkeeper or from a side kick in. It was also very clear that it was a game where close control was very important as well as using skills and vision.

The boys faced Clipstone U12 and were quickly amongst the goals as they adapted very quickly to this new game. The boys quickly learnt that you needed to apply pressure very high up the pitch and always stay focused on the game, as not marking a player straight away could very easily end up in your team conceding a goal within a few seconds.

The boys ended up winning the game very comfortably with nearly all of them finding the back of the net at some point in the game. It was certainly a great session for them in regards to fitness (I have never seen so many red faces at the end of a session before), technique and game play.

It now looks like the boys want to take part in the 14-15 season which takes place once a month on a Friday night.

For those of you that have never seen Futsal played, I would urge you to go and have a look. I would also urge you to take your players for a session as it really does improve everything you want from young football players.
