Saturday the 29th of November saw us play host to Ilkeston Town Boys and from the minute I saw the size of the team and how they warmed up I knew it was going to be another hard game.
The game kicked off on a very muddy pitch, not helped by the girls training session before hand but I’m happy to say Kevin’s girls will train else where from now to protect the pitch……..well done Kevin lol
We kicked off and it didn’t take long to see the quality of Ilkeston. They passed the ball round better than any team I’ve seen at this age. All the boys knew their role in the team and it took only five minutes for us to fall 1-0 down. Ilkeston continued to play some great football and I must say it was a pleasure to watch. The second and third goals came for Ilkeston but we kept battling and forced two good saves from the Ilkeston keeper.
They had strength and speed from back to front and the fourth goal came just before half time.
At half time I had to try and pick the lads spirit up, they are at that age now where they know the game is going one way. I told them its a new half at 0-0 and and keep your heads up.
We looked better in the second half but the passing, moving off the ball and control in middle of the pitch was to much for us and Ilkeston got another two goals beating us 6-0, it could of been more but our Keeper Ashton made some great saves
Ilkeston were stronger, organized and had a great level of discipline.
I told the lads at full time there was no shame in losing to a good team. I have no doubts that we can get better but the messing about at training and match days needs to stop, the chatting when they should be listening.
I’m very proud of how far the team came last season but its now time for that next step.
