This weekends game away to Bulwell Forest Sky wasn’t had to get the lads ready and motivated for it because of how poorly the team played the week before and the added start to the March league made it another reason for us to want to put last weeks performance behind us.
It only took a few minutes into the game to see that the lads were up todays game, the tackles hard but fair came in all over the park, the lads sticking to there jobs in defence, midfield and attack.
I’ve seen a lot of good goal keeper in my time……Shilton, Seaman, Schmeichel, Buffon, Cech and now Robert Osborne from Bulwell Forest. The keeper pulled off three or four great saves in the first twenty minutes but when the first went in there was nothing he could do about it.
From another attacking move we won a corner and when the ball was cleared out of the box Billy Stevenson controlled it, pushed it forward and smashed a ball to the top corner of the goal. 1-0 Gedling Southbank and well deserved.
At half time although we were in control of the game I told the lads if we didn’t get that second one good attacking move from Bulwell could change the game. Bulwell came out for the second half looking much more up for a battle, they pushed us hard but my defender, Liam, Luca and Billy stopped everything that came there way.
We missed Ronnie last week but today he was on top of the midfield battle with two runs starting in our box and ending up in Bulwell boxes. Ten minutes into the half saw Max find Ronnie with a good pass and when Ronnie played Luca into the box he was unlucky not to score with him hitting the post but with a bit of luck the ball came to Ben three yards out for him to tap in the second and give us the gap I wanted.
With Corey, Max, Josh and Tom all have a good game in midfield it never looked like Bulwell would come back and when Ben got his 23rd goal of the season with just five minutes left it was all over.
At 3-0 not one of the Bulwell lads heads dropped and they kept on attacking when ever possible and in the last minute they scored a goal, should it of been a penalty ????? Did the ref blow???? I know one thing the Bulwell keeper was on his way down the pitch.
The game finished 3-1, Ronnie was given man of the match and we had made another good start to the league.
What was more pleasing for me today was I had my voice back and the lads shown a 100% improvement from the week before.
Well done Lads……..That’s the way to do it.
