Gedling Southbank Freemans Vets secured the inaugural over 45s league in dramatic style in the last game of the season. Needing a win to secure the title they were seemingly cruising at halftime being 3-0 up against mid-table Bottesford.
Having missed a hatful of chances the game became even more comfortable when GSB went 5-0 up with just 18 minutes to go. Bottesford grabbed what was thought to be a single consolation goal, until the game turned on its head.
The referee somewhat bizarrely gave Bottesford 3 (yes three!) penalties in the last 10 minutes to make it 5-4! Knowing a draw wouldn’t be enough GSB had to dig deep to see out the final 2 minutes. They did just that and secured their second title in 6 years. Cue jubilant celebrations…..!!!
Well done Gents!!
