Saturday the 25th of October took us back to the Victoria Embankments to play Wilford Lions, a team who we beat 4-1 at the same venue only four weeks prior.
With our new player Alfie getting his player card back this week it saw us with a full squad of twelve, with five subs was the chopping and changing going to give us a problems ???
The game started at a good pace with both teams working hard and getting stuck in but after ten minutes Wilford won a free kick a few yards outside the box and middle of the pitch. The shot was blocked but the ball went round our box like a pin ball that finally found the back of the net. 1-0 Wilford.
This was the 3rd silly free kick we had gave away in two weeks and the other two cost us goals against Radcliffe last week.
The first lot of changer’s came with four players coming off but the changer’s did not upset the team and we continued to push for that goal.
Half time 1-0
We talked about giving away silly free kicks at half time and the big kick from the Wilford keeper. We have scored in every game this season so Paul and I told them not to worry and keep working as a team.
The second half saw Wilford come out the stronger, forcing our keeper Ashton into a couple of saves and Corey having to clear off the line twice. We finally woke up and started to fight back with a few corners and long range shots from Ethan and Tom.
Wilford were on the back foot but looked fast when they counter attached but Corey was up to the task.
Half way into the second half saw another set of big changer’s with all five subs coming on. Alfie replaced Liam who was limping but still didn’t won’t to come off……..(very Staurt Peace like).
With only five minutes left Ronnie found himself at the back post from a corner, he controlled the ball well but before he could shoot two Wilford players closed him down. A minute later saw us counter attack a Wilford move, Ronnie and Ben set off towards goal but Ronnie’s pass was just a bit to long for Ben and the keeper collected the ball
Full Time 1-0.
We pushed and pushed but couldn’t find that goal today. I think the team looked a little off their normal pace today but we move on and look forward to the next game.
Corey was voted man of match. A very good shift put in at the back saw him play the full game. Well done
